A Special Room for Her

Expert Author M. WithamLooking to surprise the lady in your life with a gift that will really wow her? Consider designing a room in your home just for her. Similar to the man cave, this room would feature the things she loves and give her a space to enjoy her hobbies or just some relaxation in peace. Let's face it, the man cave has proven to be beneficial to couples and families. Serving as an escape and a place to let go of stress or just relax, it is something that women need just as much as men.

Some women are running around wearing many different hats during the day. Juggling the kids, work, preparing meals, getting homework done, getting to and from after school activities, there's not a lot of down time, which can leave some women over stressed and perhaps not the most pleasant to be around. So whether for Valentine's Day, a birthday, or just any day,
surprising your lady with a room all to herself is the perfect gift to promote her peace of mind and happiness.

So how can you get started?

First, you need to decide on which room of your home you will use, or if you need to consider building an addition. You could use a spare bedroom, an office, a closet space, a basement or even the master bathroom, depending on her style. Even a smaller space will work as long as it can be her own.

The next step is to figure out a theme for her room. This could mean just decorating a room with something she likes or creating a room that serves a particular function. You may have to get creative with this step if you don't already know what she enjoys doing or collecting. Try looking around your home to see if there's something that she collects or if there are themes from room to room such as a favorite color, design, or tone.
Here are some ideas on themes for her room:

  • Art or craft room - If she enjoys painting and drawing you could make her a studio space full of art supplies. Or if she enjoys crafts, such as sewing or scrapbooking, then the room could include a large table to work on her projects. A new easel and a few brushes and she will be on her way to feeling more relaxed with a peaceful space for arts and crafts.
  • Yoga enthusiast - If she has been spending a lot of time at the local yoga studio, she would probably enjoy a space that she could practice at home. Yoga does not require a large space so this room doesn't have to be huge. You could decorate with some of her favorite yoga accessories like a mat, blocks, and a blanket. Oh, and don't forget the candles and the Buddha.
  • Gossip room - As you probably know, women love to get together and discuss the latest gossip. From actors, singers, to the neighbors down the street, there's always plenty to talk about. If you on the other hand don't necessarily enjoy such conversations, you could design her room with lots of comfy seating so she can have friends over for tea or wine without taking over the living room.
  • Spa at home - If your lady enjoys her time at spa to relax, perhaps you could bring the spa to her. Remodeling your master bathroom to include a large tub with jets would be just the trick. Lots of bubble bath, essential oils, and a robe and she just may not want to leave her at home spa.

Whatever you decide will be greatly appreciated. It is all about making a space all her own where no one else is allowed unless invited. This gives her a break and time to collect her thoughts so she can continue being the best partner, mother, and worker she can be. If creativity is not your strong point and you are looking for some help undertaking this project, consider hiring a professional home improvement company to come in and design and/or build the room for you.
